Spousal Support / Alimony

What is spousal support/alimony?

Colorado refers to spousal support/alimony as spousal maintenance. In January 2014 new legislation went in to effect that changes the way spousal maintenance is determined. The new law is designed to be a guideline and there is uncertainty as to how parties will be affected.  In a contested divorce the determination of maintenance is up to the Judge who will consider income, financial resources, needs of the person seeking maintenance and the property in the marital estate.
